Learn from your dog..

Dogs are widely considered as the man’s best friend. Why? Because they give us that feeling of being loved, expected and appreciated. Think about it, dogs are the only animals that do not have to do anything for their existence. We cherish that priceless feeling of comfort that they give us so much that we are literally spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars to make sure they have everything that they need to be happy and we are basically ready to do anything for them without asking for anything else in return.
Why is that? It’s because one of the deepest cravings that a human has is to feel important and appreciated. The psychologist and philosopher, William James once said: “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated. This is a gnawing and unfaltering human hunger, and the rare individual who honestly satisfies this hunger will hold people in the palm of their hand and even the undertaker will be sorry when he dies”
Every day when you come home after a long day, your dog is sincerely and truthfully happy to see you, showing you how important we are to them. It doesn’t matter how bad your day was and/or how many things didn’t work out, as your dog is always there ready to show you the affection, love and caring that you need. That’s why we love them so much and that’s why we feel such a deep connection to them.

So, how does this apply to your interactions with other people. It’s quite simple - learn from your dog. Stop being obsessed with what interests you and start focusing on what the other person needs, wants, feels and experiences. Stop talking and start listening and being empathetic to what other people are having to go through, what challenges they are facing and what struggles they are trying to overcome.
Remember, that the deepest craving in human nature is to be appreciated. Start genuinely appreciating the people that you communicate with, stop judging and criticizing them, learn how to be a great listener and a whole new world filled with countless opportunities and experiences will reveal itself to you.
